Meeting with Fabio Fragiacomo

A couple of weeks after meeting with John, I found that one of the tutors on the Creative Advertising course, Fabio, used to teach the MA in Advertising and Design that I wish to apply for. I got a hold of his email and sent him a message asking if I could meet with him and see how he things I should approach the application.

I met with Fabio this morning and he was keen to hear my reasons for applying. I explained that while I do still want to go into branding, a further knowledge of advertising and marketing will allow me to fully understand how my audience thinks and expand the ways in which I can respond to that. Fabio said he was pleased with my response and that it was clear I had an evident goal and plan with the course.

Much of his advice on my application was similar to John's, he told me that the course takes only the people they think will benefit from the course and the way it's run and structured, half in the design school and half in the business school. He said I should make my intentions apparent in my personal statement and speak about how the course will help me get there.

After this meeting I thought about how I would word all these points, and decided that I would try and convince the reader of my application that the course was the last thing I needed to go into industry, or the last piece of the puzzle.

As if Fabio hadn't been helpful enough, I got an email from him a couple of hours after our meeting saying that he had spoken to the MA course leader, Mike Sheedy, and that he has set up a time for me to meet with him and discuss the course further. This is such a great opportunity as I am very comfortable talking to people and was disappointed that there was no interview stage for the course. Because of this there would be next to no one else applying given the opportunity to meet the leader of the course. I will be meeting with Mike on 24th April.
